DIY Cold Remedies

It’s that time of the year when everyone is coping with the dreaded lurgies that float around our world. We all know that there isn’t a cure for the common cold except for time, bed rest and chicken soup… (oh and whatever medicines you take)… which kinda sucks…

So with the help of my sister in law (who is a home remedy guru), I made this list of what are some fantastic home remedies for the winter blues. They obviously wont be the magical “cure” for a cold, but you know, they can’t hurt! I know that they tend to make me feel a bit brighter when my nose is all stuffy and red, my eyes are watering, and I am coughing and sneezing…

1 (grated or sliced) clove of garlic
1 (grated or sliced) small thumb of ginger
Juice of half or whole lemon
Pinch of cayenne pepper

Place ingredients in a mug with hot water. Let steep for a while then strain and drink. Can add a teaspoon of raw honey if you would like it sweeter. *Important to drink while warm as this is when the honey and lemon will have the properties released that act as antibiotics

Juice of 1 lemon
1 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar
1-2 tsp of Raw Honey
Hot Water

This is a good system cleanse every morning. The honey and lemon will release properties that aid the body in flushing toxins/infections out and also act as immune builders.

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Tbsp warm water
1 Tbsp Raw Honey

Place ingredients in a jar and shake to mix. Keep stored in fridge. Always shake before taking. Take 1 Tbsp as needed for cough relief and soothing throat.

Raw honey is awesome for everything (it is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, an antioxidant, it strengthens immunity, eliminates allergies, remedy for skin wounds when applied to cuts and skin infections/irritations, an expectorant & an anti-inflammatory).

Have a spoonful of it to sooth an irritated throat and help lift any infection off your chest
